Users of GCC park in De Monte Colony want to be consulted before plan for park for pets is rolled out

Many people who use the GCC park in De Monte Colony Park have petitioned the city’s civic body that they must be consulted before any plans are made for the renovation or redesign of this park.

This move comes in wake of the Mylapore MLA, Dha Velu making public a plan to convert this park as a pets park and releasing a working design of the proposed park.

A petition signed by dozens of people has been sent to the commissioner of Chennai Corporation.

Said K. Sridharan, a resident of Abiramapuram, who served in top-ranking posts in the Indian Air Force with a service of 36 years, ” We are now sending a similar petition to the Mylapore MLA. All we want the civic body to do is have a discussion with the users of the park on any plans that GCC may have for the park.”

Over 200 people use the park daily.

It is well maintained; it is used by people to go on walks in the mornings and in the evenings, while many seniors head here to walk and meet up with with friends, young parents bring their children here for some fresh air. Some groups also play badminton.
