Work began this Thursday morning ( Feb.6) on setting up the teppam for the Thaipoosam festival of Sri Kapali Temple, Mylapore.
While dozens of empty fuel drums were rolled out from the supply lorry into the temple tank steps, many men were already floating in the waters and putting poles in place to design the base for the large teppam.
In an hour, teams of men managed to firmly tie the empty drums to poles and create sets of these that were seen floating and bobbing up and down on the east side of the tank. They will then be tied in order to create the floating base.
Once this work is done, the teppam decorator will start work. Then comes the live decoration, closer to Feb.12, the first day of the three day teppam.
