Sundaram Finance winds up its contract with GCC for maintenance of Nageswara Rao Park

Sundaram Finance has wound up its responsibility with Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) of taking care of Nageswara Rao Park in Luz. The company had maintained this park for some 20 years.

It has also stopped the famed ‘Mikeless Kutcheri in the Park’ series which ran for about 17 years. This first-Sunday of-the-month event provided a platform for young artistes from the city and outside.

A busy and well-used park, maintaining it was a thankless job for the company. The hiccups included some walkers making off with saplings planted in different corners and vandalism by local youths of playthings and plants.

The significant development that the company did was to restore many old trees that were shaken up in a nasty cyclone that ravaged the city. This was done using professional assistance from professionals, thus saving the green cover in the park.

Over time, the park turned into a play-space too – with people converting lawns and sands into play zones and loud music played in the Chess Square by private people who ran dance classes
