It was a bright, cheerful morning in Mylapore and it was Children’s Day! November 14.
At Vidya Mandir in Luz, students of class six to twelve were dressed in their Sunday clothes and the campus was abuzz with excitement for the celebrations ahead.
The school teachers had to coax the students to contain their enthusiasm, and directed them to the open-air theatre, where the students sat under a large blue canopy.
The programme began with the principal, Kanchana Mala, addressing the students -she touched on the importance of believing in ourselves, embracing challenges and spreading positivity.
Then came a choir concert by teachers – songs like Madai Thirandu, Sutham Ulla Veedu and Unakkenna Venum Sollu.
There was a skit themed on values like respect for languages, importance of time and keeping promises. It was laced with humour.
The finisher for this event was a dance, an enthralling performance by the KG teachers and some parents of the junior kids – themed on the states of India.
The choreographer for this performance was Srikala Bharath, founder of Tejas School of Performing Arts and an alumnus of Vidya Mandir.
After the show, a obstacle race was set up for the 12th graders, just to give the students a few more minutes of entertainment before they returned to their classes.
