Upasana, in association with Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, presents Aadi Natya Samarpanam, a dance festival for this season. Concerts are on August 2 and 4, starts at 6pm, at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Mylapore.
Deepa Ganesh, artistic director, Upasana says the dance recitals have themes related to devotion and explore these questions through a spotlight on spirituality in daily life. This is in keeping with the Aadi season.
The fest features the special needs artistes from RASA and artistes from the dance schools from Chennai and suburbs.
On Friday, August 2, the themes focus on ’Bharathiar’s Shakthi’
The participating dance schools are – Sriom Padmini Nrithyakala Nikethan, Walajapet, Ananda Natyakshethra, Thiruverkadu, RASA, Centre for Theatre Arts and Special Needs, Shivakalalayam Academy, Thiruvanmiyur and Chathurlakshana Academy of Fine Arts, Mylapore
The same evening, the production ‘Aadi 18 – Kaveri Payanam’, has its premiere – presented by by Premnath’s Rukminidevi Natyakshetra Foundation, Mogappair East
On Sunday, August 4 are the following recitals –
First up will be ‘Aadi Aasarippu’ – a production by Sheela Unnikrishnan’s Sree Devi Natyalaya
Then follows the premiere of two new productions:
First, Bhakti Across The Ages – by Jayanthi Subramaniam’s Kala Darsana, with music by Nandini Anand
Then follows ‘Sree Balatripurasundari’, a premiere of the production by Anitha Guha’s Bharathanjali, with music by Dr. P R VenkataSubramanian.
The recitals are open to all.
