Lok Sabha election: Votes counting centre at Queen Marys College under high security. Counting on June 4

The long rooms inside Queen Mary’s College on the Marina is where all the EVMs that were used for polling in Chennai North Lok Sabha constituency are kept, behind layers of high security.

Counting will take place here on June 4.

Soon after polling got over on April 19, all the sealed EVMS of the constituency were shipped to this campus and lodged in a few rooms which had been prepared for this purpose and the rooms sealed. From that hour, central and state security forces took charge in the different layers of security that are maintained here 24 x 7.

Dozens of cameras have been deployed here and reps of political parties whose candidates contested, are also posted here.

Access to the college campus is closed to college staff and students and outsiders.
