It was a Monday morning. The start of a work-week.
And yet, there were a few thousand people inside and around Sri Kapali Temple as the Adhikara Nandi vahanam procession kept time to start the procession of the mada v eedhis of Mylapore.
A roar of prayer and ‘Kapali !! Kapali !!’ rent the air as the priests conducted the final aarti of the gods on the vaham. The eyes were also on the sliver-plated vahanam, the nandi shining in the glare of floodlights and popping lights from cameras and smartphones.
