Philomena Simon, retired primary school Tamil teacher at St. Bede’s AI Hr Sec. School, San Thome passed away on January 17.
The funeral Holy Mass was held at the chapel of Little Sisters of the Poor, Harrington Road, Chetpet – she was residing on this campus.
She not only taught Tamil but was also a class teacher in junior school and resided in San Thome.
Wrote alumni John Moses in his tribute: “She was an amazing human being. Strict but had a kind heart. We used to cross their place on our way to church every Sunday. Her tone of voice would send shivers down one’s spine but that’s what was special about teachers of St. Bede’s. That’s what made us what we are today. Can never forget the rose that she would keep in her hair bun!”
