The alumni of the batch 1973 – ’74 of Lady Sivaswami Ayyar Girls’ High School have a special get-together when they attend the golden jubilee celebrations of this batch in the school campus on January 26- the day when all the alumni of this school meet to celebrate.
The event will start from 9.30 am onwards and the colour code for this batch is green, the invitation reads.
At least 25 of this batch are expected to attend the event, says Geetha Raghavan, a retired special educator who, along with Dr R. Muthulakshmi, formed a WhatsApp group to bring batchmates together.
“We formed the WhatsApp group over a year ago. We started networking and connecting with our batchmates. Many are not in the city. We had four sections then and totally around 200 people in our batch. We were able to connect with more than 50. Some of our batchmates are in the US and some in Mumbai. Few are coming from Bengaluru to take part in the event, “says Geetha.
The batchmates have been sending messages and having Zoom meetings to keep each other updated on their lives.
“We are collecting funds and the corpus will be handed over to the school for the ongoing breakfast scheme for girls. We will be spending time on campus reminiscing about our school days. The school is offering lunch, ” she said.
The golden jubilee batch and the silver jubilee batch is meeting on Friday.
Most of the ‘old’ girls from the 1973 – ’74 batch have been teachers or bankers. There are two – Muthulakshmi and Mahalakshmi – who have obtained academic doctoral degrees, adds Geetha.
‘Old’ girls of this batch who want to reconnect can call Geetha Raghavan at 9841110588 or Dr Muthulakshmi at 9840302712 for more details.
