Kathak artiste and teacher Jigyasa Giri is presenting a theatrical dance drama titled “Dancing Illusions in Stillness” on July 30 at Narada Gana Sabha’s auditorium.
Jigyasa runs the dance school, Devaniya in Alwarpet and this production features 21 female dancers, all but one playing males roles.
Jigyasa says that this work is a Kathak nritya natika in the English language, set in five scenes, on a canvas of poetry, dialogues and dance.
This dance drama, which runs for 70 minutes, takes the audience through a few pages of the Mahabharat, from the game of dice to Draupadi’s humiliation, the war thereafter and what it signifies for today’s world.
