A short festival to celebrate saint Thomas began at St Thomas Cathedral in San Thome on Wednesday, June 28 evening.
The festival flag was hoisted on the dwajastambam ( flag staff) located at the south west corner of the church campus, to signal the start of this annual festival.
Priests from across the city diocese will lead the religious services till Sunday, said parish priest Fr Arulraj.
A car procession where the image of the saint, who is believed to have preached in this area and whose dead body was buried here for some years after his death near St Thomas Mount, will be taken out. This event is on July 1, Saturday.
The feast Holy Mass is on Sunday.
