Tamil Nadu Co-operative Marketing Federation ( TANFED ) has opened a store recently in Alwarpet.
The outlet sells agricultural products aggregated from a few co-operative societies of Thiruchengode, Kolli Hills, Erode, Perundurai and other zones in the state.
Wood-pressed coconut, sesame, groundnut oils, in a range of brands are the products you set your eyes on as you enter this store.
The salesperson says Marthandam honey is popular among shoppers here. 200 grams of it is is priced at Rs 87.
Coconut oil price starts at Rs 220 a kilo, and sesame oil from Rs 380.
Samba milagai, a native variety of red chilli, is another popular product here.
Hand-made soaps out of pure coconut oil and in a combination of few aromatic products are on the shelves.
Stocks include millets like thinai, varahu and samai – sold at Rs 60 per half kilo. Mappillai Samba and Black Kavuni rice are available too.
Pulses like green gram and urad, brown sugar, filter coffee powder are stocked here.
All the products sold here are grown without using chemicals, says the man in charge of this store.
Kollimalai pepper (Rs 150 per 250 gms), jeera, pure turmeric powder and a variety of spices of native types are available.
