New Bishop-elect of Delhi, Church of North India, has San Thome connection

Rev. Dr Paul Swarup, the newly elected Bishop of Delhi – Church of North India is no stranger to the community of CSI St. Thomas English Church.

He grew up here and was part of the Sunday School, Youth Fellowship and Choir at STEC. His elder brother Ajit Stanley Moses currently serves as a Lay Reader in the Church. The family used to reside in Shastri Nagar in Adyar – their father D. Soundara Pandiyan was a retired Judge – and has been closely connected with this parish.

Rev. Swarup had his early schooling at Montfort Academy in San Thome, and went on to graduate from Madras Christian College, Tambaram.

He also earned degrees at Union Biblical Seminary Pune, Union Theological College Bangalore, Princeton Theological Seminary and the University of Cambridge, specialising in Old Testament theology and the Dead Sea Scrolls.

Rev. Swarup is currently Presbyter-in-charge at Green Park Free Church – CNI in Delhi.

He is married to Nina, and they have a son Daniel.

He will be installed as Bishop of Delhi at the Cathedral Church of the Redemption in New Delhi on Sunday, 16 October 2022.
