What has your MLA done with the funds that is given to every MLA for the betterment of his constituency?
Mylapore’s MLA, Dha Velu of the DMK says that he has proposed a few projects to the tune of Rs.1.5 crores. A MLA is granted Rs.3 crores.
Velu says he has proposed funding for furniture for three schools run by Chennai Corporation. He did not mention the names of these schools but it is well known that almost all GCC schools lack proper furniture.
But more importantly, some of them, like the biggest Chennai School in Bheemanapet needs massive attention – the walls are peeling away, some roofs leak, toilets have collapsed and drains do not function. But the MLA who once promised to pay much attention has not looked that way since the November rains, say teachers and students at this school.
In other schools, dead computers are dumped in dusty ‘Smart’ rooms and senior teachers keep pleading with clubs and communities for support for PCs, smart screens and basic infrastructure.
The MLA also says some funding will go to finish civil work on a community hall built for Doomingkuppam.
Also, funds okayed for a new gymnasium on the GCC playground on St Marys Road.
Velu says funding is also going for building / redoing public toilets. He says there are lots of toilets across the constituency but only six are in good condition.
He says he is considering funding buying of more desilt-machines fitted lorries for use by Metrowater in the Mylapore zone since these were in short supply when most needed at monsoon time when sewage lines in many areas overflowed.

As a mylaporean, and a Mandavelipakkam resident I have been requesting a good walking path around perimeter of the ground opposite Air Tel office. This will be a boon to residents and reduce the crowd in 5th cross street park ( Lazarus Church Park) which is more used by senior citizens. It seems our MLA Sri Velu do a lot of good things and hope he will add my request to his list of to dos.
