Christians will observe Ash Wednesday tommorrow. A symbolic event held during the Mass that launches the season of Lent – a time for reparation and reflection that ends with the remembrance of Jesus’ death.
In local churches, old, dry palms given to families to be kept at altars will be received and burnt to create the ash. This ash will be applied on the foreheads of people who attend Mass on Wednesday, to remind people that they are ‘from dust and to dust’.
Mostly, this symbolic event takes place during the morning Masses.
At San Thome Cathedral, Masses are at 6.15 am ( Eng.), 11 am and 6.15 p.m. ( Thamizh).
