Some 200 people took part in the flag hoisting event and Holy Mass at Our Lady of Guidance Church in R. A. Puram this Thursday evening, the first day of the weeklong religious celebration of the feast of saint Lazarus, which is a grand celebration here every year.
The flag was taken out in a small procession around the church campus, blessed by priests and then hoisted to signal the launch of this year’s feast.
Masses and novenas will be said every day here.
The grand car procession of seven decorated cars carrying the statues of saints including that of Lazarus will be on Saturday evening, making the rounds of the neighbourhood till late evening.
However, this year due to regulations, hawkers will not be allowed to set up stalls of snacks, household articles and fancy stuff on the streets as they normally do at the time of this feast.
