Construction of a new hospital for Urban Primary Health Centre (UPHC) is going on at a full swing at C.P. Ramaswamy Road, Alwarpet.
The UPHC’s old building, next to Chennai Corporation’s community hall on this road was demolished early last year as it was in a dilapidated condition.
Although the construction of the health centre – hospital started, a few months ago, it was moving at a slow pace.
The work was put on hold following the March lockdown to prevent virus spread. It re-started a few days ago after the government announced certain relaxations in lockdown regulations.
Said a Chennai Corporation staff who was at the site, “The new UPHC will have three floors. Rooms will be constructed for all existing facilities of the health centre.”
The construction will be completed in a few months, he said.
The UPHC is currently functioning from the premises of Lions Centennial Diabetes Centre on the same road, near Winners bakery – this place provides people with basic medical care.
