NGO Sevalaya’s eco friendly store, ShoppeSeva, opened their doors to the public about three months ago. They sell everything from cloth and coir bags to vibuthi, golu dolls, pottery items and hand made soaps.
N. Jagannathan, the media relations officer of Sevalaya says, “Most of the products, like the cloth and coir bags, are made by the students of Sevalaya’s community college in Thirvalluvar district. Sevalaya has a goshala too and vibuthi is made from the cow dung generated at the goshala. The other products are sourced from local communities. The amount realised from the sale of these products are used for Sevalaya’s projects”.
The shop recently conducted competitions for Krishna Jayanthi and Vinayaka Chaturthi. The founder of Sevalaya, V. Muralidharan, distributed prizes to eight winners who had made Vinayaka idols without a mould.
The shop is located at 15/11, East Mada Street, Mylapore. The shop is open from Mon-Sat, 9.30 a.m. to 6 p.m. For details contact the manager Indira at 7299564411.
