The HR & CE Dept. has decided to celebrate the thirukalyanam of the gods at Sri Kapali Temple, Mylapore on June 5.
This was confirmed by the officer at the temple on Monday evening. But the timing of this grand festival, art of the annual Panguni fest here was being worked out with the chief priest.
The temple was closed for the public since the janata curfew in view of the spread of the corona virus but daily pujas were carried out. Lately, a prodosham event and evening pujas were webcast.
The thirukalyanam will also be webcast, we learn.
The temple officer says such a ritual can be held on a pournami ( full moon) day and hence the vaikasi pournami day was chosen, suggested by many devotees. It is evident that this one-off fest is being held at the behest of devotees.
The officer says that the temple is yet to receive any order regarding opening the temple to the public from this weekend.
On Tuesday evening the official confirmed that the Thirukalyanam will be held from 8 p.m to 9.30 p.m.
