Wellknown writer Balakumaran passes away

Well-known writer Balakumaran passed away at a hospital in Alwarpet on May 15 at about noontime. He was a resident of Warren Road ( Bhaktavatsalam Road), Mylapore.

Besides being a celebrated writer Balakumaran wrote dialogues for films ( Mani Ratnam’s ‘ Nayakan’ and K Shankar’s ‘Jeans’ and ‘Kadhalan’ ) and worked alongside film maker K. Balachander as assistant film director.

Balakumaran was regarded as a writer who was at ease in writing serious literature as well as short stories that suited magazines. More importantly, his strong woman characters won him a legion of fans among women readers.

He worked as a journalist and at TAFE.
