The members of Sixth Trust Cross Association, Mandavelipakkam, are a busy lot. Ever since their association was formed about a year ago, they have been taking pains to ensure that most of the civic issues in their neighbourhood are addressed as soon as possible.
Be it cleaning the streets or ensuring that the garbage bins don’t overflow, they leave no stone unturned to make sure it is done well and on time.
Vasanthi Sampath, the secretary of the association says, “Every other week, a few of us get together to clean the streets. We also managed to convince auto drivers and watchmen in our locality to adopt a few trees (seen in the picture).”
And that’s not all. They have now started source segregation and are hoping more residents can join them in their efforts to keep plastic away from the bins.
This Sunday, June 4, the members of the association and NGO Thuvakkam will join hands to conduct a tree planting drive in their neighbourhood. Saplings will also be distributed. At Karpaga Vinayagar Temple, junction of 6th and 11th Cross Streets. Contact Vasanthi at 9884255288 or Joseph at 9994535756 for details.
