The Chennai Corporation team along with Mylapore Police officials cleared the shops on the pavements around the Mada Streets today morning.
G. Tamilselvan, executive engineer, Chennai Corporation, Zone 9, says, “The hawkers who have set up structures with wooden boards and thin roofs had completely cordoned off a part of the pavement. Those structures have been removed. The small vendors were asked to move inside”.
When asked if the move was based on a complaint, he said that visitors to Sri Kapali Temple, Mylapore and pedestrians had lodged several complaints that the pavements there had become unusable.
The operation, which started in the morning, was done by noon. The construction material and the goods of the hawkers were dumped into trucks and taken away.
