Several events were organised at Chettinad Hari Shree Vidyalayam, R. A. Puram this past month. The first, a virtual town hall conference, co-ordinated by Global Nomads Group and organised by US Consulate, involved an interaction with a school in Virginia USA. Forty students from grades IX to XII talked about a range of issues including Donald Trump, female infanticide and feminism.
The other was an eight day trip to Japan (seen in the picture), as a part of the Japan Science and Technology Agency’s Sakura Science programme for high school students. A few science students from classes XI and XII visited science institutions, universities and laboratories, where they got a chance to create an EL device (a conductive polymer).
They saw a humanoid robot which could talk and sing. They went on many cultural tours and also got an opportunity to meet a Nobel laureate, Dr. Hideki Shirakhawa and the first Japanese astronaut at NASA, Mamoru Mori.
The third event was a cultural talent show titled Pradharshan. Students of class X and XII participated in events like fusion dance, fashion show, theatre and a variety of dances and western music from various time periods.
