The scene was different at Marina Beach today morning. A place frequented by walkers and joggers in the early morning hours had surprise visitors today – devotees who had come for their holy bath in the sea on the auspicious day of ‘Masi Magam’.
On Masi Magam, which falls in the Tamil month of Masi (Feb – March), the idols of Gods and Goddesses are carried in a procession to seas, rivers and ponds where poojas and rituals are held. It is believed that those who take bath in these water bodies on this days will attain moksha and rid themselves of their sins.
Gods from several temples including Sri Kapaleeshwarar Temple, Mylapore (seen in the pictures) and Sri Parthasarathy Temple at Triplicane were brought on their vahanas to the beach. Thousands of devotees were seen taking a dip in the sea today morning.
