Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Chennai Kendra will launch its annual cultural festival for 2014 from 21st November. It is a long drawn one and closes on on 12th January 2015. A press release from Bhavans states that there are 155 individual events.
The inauguration is at Bhavan’s Dr. Preetha Reddy Auditorium at Mylapore. Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul, Chief Justice of Madras High Court is the Chief Guest and presents the P. Obul Reddy and P. Gnanambal Memorial Awards for Life Time Achievement to vocalist Bombay Jayashri Ramnath and veena vidushi E. Gayatri, Vice-Chancellor of Tamilnadu Music and Fine Arts University.
The inauguration is to be followed by a a vocal concert by Bombay Jayashri Ramnath.
The music series is to be followed by a NAATYA UTSAV from 13th December to 25th December 2014 at Bhavan’s TAG Auditorium, Kilpauk ( Bhavan’s Rajaji Vidyashram premises ).
The P. Obul Reddy and P. Gnanambal Memorial Award for Life Time Achievement in Bharatanatyam is being awarded to Alarmel Valli.
The Bhavan’s Cultural Awards 2014 are presented to Subhashree Ramachandran (Carnatic vocal ), Saashwathi Prabhu ( Carnatic vocal ), P.N. Venkataraman ( Tambura), S. Anjani (Veena) and S. Ashwini ( Mridangam) and S. Mahathi (Keyboard ).
The second edition of the Music Series is from 26th December 2014 to 12th January 2015 and is at Bhavan’s P.A.C. Ramasamy Raja Hall at Mylapore.
Many senior and young artists are participating in this Cultural Festival. Admission to all the events are open to all.
