The sale of dolls heralded the season. Now the music will ring in Navaratri closer to us all. At least three venues will host a series of Carnatic music concerts, discourses and even a play on the occasion of this festival.
The first fest starts this evening (Sept.23) – hosted by Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan at its hall in Mylapore. There are two ( three on some days) concerts in the evenings and feature some senior and some young artistes. The fest is open to all.
Sri Ramakrishna Mission Students’ Home launches on Sept.24 its annual music fest at its campus on P S Sivaswamy Road, next to Vivekananda College. Every morning, 7.30 am onwards Dr M V Anantapadmanabhachariar will present a discourse series. On day one, Nithyashree Mahadevan performs after the inauguration. All leading artistes who are regulars at this music fest are lined up – Sikkil Mala, Vijay Siva, T M Krishna, Mambalam Sisters, T M Krishnan and Viji Krishnan among others. The play by C V Chandramohan ‘ Samarpanam’ closes the fest on Oct.3. Call 24992537 for details.
The fest is open to all. Youths at this Home are closely involved in the fest. C P Ramaswamy Aiyar Fiundation in Alwarpet is also hosting a short music fest.
