A huge tree and its branches was chopped off overnight and dumped in a garbage bin. Residents of Mylapore’s busy Bazaar Street woke up to the sight on Sunday morning. They as well as shopkeepers in the area were not happy as the tree is one among other old trees in the area, providing shade. Some said a crow’s nest with the fledgelings was also thrown in the bin.
There has been some objection to the tree’s existence lately as it was supposedly blocking a temple’s name board. Corporation officials say only the Chennai Corporation is authorised to cut, trim and remove trees from the roads.
