Mylapore, home to music 24×7 resounded to vocal and instrumental music on Saturday and Sunday on the occasion of World Music Day. On Saturday morning, while school children sang near the Gandhi statue on the Marina senior musicians like the Carnatic Brothers presented a short concert on its lawns, to signal the start of the celebrations.
In the evening, the stage was set at Narada Gana Sabha where a line of young classical musicians performed. The show was launched by maestro Dr M Balamuralikrishna, accompanied by dozens of schoolchildren singing on stage here followed by a concert by Anil Srinivasan on piano and Ravi Kiran on the chitra vina and Karthik on ghatam. This event was promoted by Carnatica and Sri Parthasarathy Swami Sabha.
On Sunday morning, June 22 the music floated at Nageswara Rao Park in Luz as choir groups and teenagers sang at the Chess Square even as hundreds of walkers went about their morning routine.
