There was an attempt to break into the Indian Bank branch in San Thome early on Sunday or around midnight. The bank is on San Thome High Road.
The cries of a senior woman who lives in the building where the bank is based on the ground floor seems to have unsettled the burglar who fled the place, leaving the shutter disturbed and the locks broken.
The woman later told police that she woke up when she heard some unusual sounds and on seeing some movement at the bank’s entrance screamed and later called her family member who in turn alerted City Police Control Room. A patrol vehicle to the spot and began investigation.
CCTV footage did not help much; the burglar had located the cameras outside and turned them away. Also, he was wearing a mask.
It is not known if the bank had security alarms fixed to its doors.
