A four-day international conference on early intervention for children with mental retardation is on at Hotel Savera on RK Salai, Mylapore.
Organised by Madhuram Narayanan Centre for Exceptional Children, this fourth international conference aims to spread awareness on the prevention and early detection of mental retardation and associated disabilities, says Jaya Krishnaswamy, the centre’s founder director.
Around 200 people are participating in the conference, which will conclude on November 23. Topics like genetic causes of intellectual disability will also be discussed. Experts from India and abroad will present papers on services such as music and yoga that facilitate growth and learning among special children.
The centre works with over 100 children up to the age of six on a daily basis and offers a training course for special educators.
