For the first time this summer, the city received rain and Mylapore benefitted from it too.
The clouds opened after 3 p.m. and there was steady rain for over an hour. Evidence of the rainfall was hardly there at dusk – the parched earth sucked in the water and water stagnated only in some inner colonies of this neighborhood.
Temperatures have soared beyond 40degrees in May, the peak summer season of katri but fell some two days ago after monsoon clouds moved into the sub continent.
Schools were asked to postpone reopening by a week because of the searing heat. They are now to open next Monday, June 10.
