B. Venkateswara Rao, son of late B. Narasimha Rao, aged 86 years, expired on 11 October. Born on May 3, 1926, he was a longtime resident of Mandaveli and Mylapore.
A popular badminton coach he coached the teams of Santhome School, Lady Sivaswami Girls School, St. Anthony’s Girls School and Queen Mary’s College for many years in the 80s & 90s.
He has produced many a state and university player during that period. He was one among the many badminton players who practiced regularly at the erstwhile Kapali Theatre ground in Mandaveli until it made way for a residential complex.
He was a good photographer, painter and maker of artefacts which he used to supply to popular handicraft shops in and around Mylapore.
Influenced by his father who was a doyen of Telugu film industry, he also had a brief stint as a cinematographer during the 60s in Chennai and in Mumbai.
He is survived by his wife B.Syamala, two sons and sister Dr. B. Leelavathy.
His eldest son B. Srinivasa Rao a resident of Mylapore is a cricket coach and can be contacted at 9841041985.
