RELIGIOUS EVENTS CHECKLIST

Navaratri Vizha will be celebrated at Sri Kapaleeshwarar Temple from Oct.15 to 24. Kolu has been displayed in the temple premises. The image of Sri Karpagambal will be decorated with different alankarams on these days at the mandapam. Cultural programmes will be held in the evening on all days. It includes devotional music by Tanjai Raja, dance performance by  Marikala Niketan, veena recital by Opillal School of Music and discourse by Dr. M. K. Raman.

Thirumailai Sri Anjaneyar Devasthanam, R. H. Road is organising for thirumanjanam at 8.30 a.m. and deepaarathanai in the evening daily. On Oct.24, Sri Venugopala Swami thiruveedhi purapadu at 4.30 p.m.

Sri Ramakrishna Temple, R. K. Mutt Road, is presenting Sri Devi Mahatmyam discourse by Swami Asutoshananda at 5.30 p.m. on all Fridays of the month. Sri Sri Durga Pooja from Oct.20 to 24. Kumkum and Pushpa archana to Goddess will be performed in the evenings. On Oct.29, Sri Sri Lakshmi pooja in the evening. Ph: 2462 1110.

Sringeri Jagadguru will be celebrating Nandana Samvathsara Sri Sharada Sharan Navaratri Utsava at 124, Sudharma, at Dr. R. K. Salai, Mylapore. Suvasini and Kannika pooja, Veda parayanam, Rathothsavam and concerts are also scheduled. On Oct.15 Aradhana of Sri Chandrasekhara Swamigal will be conducted. Call 3256 8717/ 6450 0131.

All India Sai Samaj celebrations from Oct.15 to Nov.2. Highlights – from Oct.16 to 23 Lalitha Sahasranama Parayanam and Sri Durga, Lakshmi Saraswathi Ashtothram every morning and evening. On Oct.27 Vishnu Sahasranama parayanam – from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Discourse by Ramakadirvel and Latha, devotional songs by Veeramani Raju, bhajans by Kadayanallur Rajagopal besides other events listed. Sri Nandalala Anmeeka Arakattalai hosts discourses at 6.30 p.m. daily. It includes Harikatha by Girija Ramaswami, Varsha Bhuvaneswari Sri Ram and Upanyasam by students of Maharajapuram Academy of Music. On Oct.16, special poojas including Navakannikai pooja will be held.

Parampara at Kasturi Ranga Road is organising free distribution of 108 Tulsi saplings at Sri Saibaba Temple at On Oct.18 at 10.30 p.m. Ph: 2499 1516.

Ramakrishna Mission Students’ Home, Mylapore is having Navaratri Utsav-2012 in Ramakrishna Mission Students’ Home Auditorium from Oct.16 to 24. Discourses on Villi Bharatham at mornings and music concerts are lined up every evening. Kolu by the mission’s students will be on display. On Oct.23 maha abhishekam to Devi Saraswathi and Lalitha Sahasranama Parayanam is scheduled in the morning. The decorated deity will be taken on a procession by Home boys around CIT Colony on all the days. KOLU DISPLAYS

Andhra Bank, R. A. Puram branch will display kolu of 15 home-grown herbal plants from Oct.15 for a 2 weeks. Open to all. At 17/31, 17/31 St. Lazarus Church Road, Mandavelipakkam. Ph: 2461 8966.

Sri Nandalala Anmeeka Arakattalai at Dr. Ranga Road, Mylapore is displaying kolu from Oct.15 to 24. The theme – Shanmatham.

Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Mylapore is having doll exhibition. The theme – Fascinating India.

SOAK IN CONCERTS

Carnatic music is in the air at C. P. Ramaswami Aiyar Foundation, Eldams Road from Oct 11 to 13.

Sundaram Finance is organising a three day ‘Kutcheris in the Park‘ from Oct.19 to 21, 6.30 a.m. onwards at Nageswara Rao Park. Children will present a combination of kritis, bhajans, and abhangs.

Mahalakshmi Welfare Association is organising music concerts in R. A. Puram by students from Mylapore schools, on all ten days from 6 p.m. onwards. Ph: 99411 30700.

Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan is has a music festival by 40 artistes. Ph: 2464 0811.

Sri Ariyakudi Music Foundation has a music festival on Oct.15 at 5.45 p.m. at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Mylapore. On till Oct.18. Includes concerts by Ranjani-Gayathri, Nityashree Mahadevan.

Navaratri music concerts on Devi from Oct.16 to 24. Each concert will feature Kamalamba Navavaranam and a Navaratri kriti. Evenings at Raga Sudha hall, Luz Avenue.Ph: 2499 2672.

Music and dance concerts at Sri Nandalala Anmeeka Arakattalai include, vocal concert by Gayathri Girish, Mohiniattam by Gopika Verma, violin concert by Gowtham Bharadwaj.
