Vinayaka Chathurthi celebrations in the neighbourhood

Grand celebrations were held everywhere on the occasion of Vinayaka Chathurthi in the neighbourhood.

Navakalasa Snapana pooja and Ganapathi homam was held at Sri Siddhi Buddhi Sametha Sri Karpaga Vinayagar Temple. 108 herbs were used for this homam.

Sweet pongal was distributed to people who visited Sri Adrishta Vinayagar Temple in West Circular Road.

Vegetable rice was distributed here in the afternoon.

The image of the lord was decorated with flowers at the Sri Navasakthi Vinayagar Temple in Luz.

Special poojas were also performed here.

Students from Ramakrishna Mission Home were seen peeling fruits like banana, pomegranate for making Panchamrutham, to be used for the special pooja arranged here.

A special offering of sweet and salt kolukattai, idly, appam, paruppu payasam and vadai was prepared at the resident of Rama Ramesh in Alamelumangapuram (below left).

Newly wed couple Navin and Krithika of Mylapore were all excited about the festival. They too had prepared special offerings of vadai, kolukattai, paruppu payasam and sundal (below right).

A group of car drivers at Baskarapuram in East Abhiramapuram had decorated a small Ganesha temple with balloons.

They also performed poojas and distributed sundal to all.

Though the celebrations had begun hawkers at South Mada Street, V. P. Koil Street, V. K. Iyer Streets in Mylapore and Mandaveli were still selling the images of Lord Ganesh. People were seen buying these images from early morning.
