Showcase of the best of craft

Kaivalam, a World Crafts Summit, is being held in Chennai for the first time.

Besides seminars and craft expo, it is also organising art exhibits in association with art galleries in the city.

Some shows are in Mylapore.

Gallery Sri Parvathi is displaying ‘Puttalika’, Puppetry crafts and stone carvings. Open from Oct.1 to 10. It is located at 28/160, Eldams Road. 

Ashvita is presenting World Crafts Council’s ‘History in images’, a photography exhibition. At 11, Second Street, R. K. Salai. On till Oct.10. Ph: 4210 9990.

Ashaara will display metal inlay furniture and terracotta jewellery from Sep.30 to Oct.10. It is located at Bheemanna Garden Road, Abhiramapuram. Open from 10.30 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Art World at 1/12, Ganeshpuram 3rd Street is showcasing sculptural show including Tanjore paintings, and stone sculptures.On till Oct.6. Open from 10.30 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Manjal Art Gallery at 70, MRC Nagar Main Road, R. A. Puram, is showcasing antique Chettinad palm leaf basketry. On till Oct.10.

Prakrit Arts is showcasing the influence of crafts in children’s book. It is located at 102, Greenways Road, Extn, R. A. Puram. On show from Oct.4 to 10.

Vinnyasa Art Gallery is exhibiting ‘Jullaaha’, textile craft from Oct.1.
