Prof. S. Radhakrishnan, a resident of Mylapore passed away on June 11.
He was born in 1929 at Pudukottai. He had his early education in his native village and pursued Honors in Economics at Madras Christian College, Tambaram. He studied economics at the State University of Michigan as a Fullbright scholar and acquired a masters degree in it.
He returned to India as an economics teacher at Raja Doraisingam Memorial College, Sivaganga. After teaching in several colleges all over India, he switched over to the corporate sector.
Radhakrishnan worked as Chief Economist at the Woollen Mills Federation, Mumbai, and later at the Indian Investment Centre, New Delhi for some years.
He taught economics at Institute for Financial Management and Research, (IFMR) Chennai.
After a decade of teaching economics at IFMR, he became Economics Professor at Academy for Promotion of Education Excellence (APEX), Chennai.
He was co founder of Institute of Economic Education (IEE), ex – president of Indian Liberal Group (ILG), Trustee of Public Expenditure Round Table and Honorary Adviser, Scientific Research Association for Economics and Finance, Chennai.
He authored books on Chit Funds, Nidhis and Benefit Funds, Micro Economics, Romance of Banking, Game Theory and Monetary Theory and Practice.
He authored 8 books, 15 monographs and 60 articles.
He is survived by his wife Radhalakshmi, daughters Bhuvana, Rama, Mangala and Jayshree and son R. Swaminathan.
