When the 2012 edition of the Sundaram Finance MYLAPORE FESTIVAL rolls out early on January 5, and runs for four days, there will be lots of events for children from the neighbourhood and of the city. And, children will also present the first set of concerts on the main stage at Sannidhi Square on the eastern side of Sri Kapali Temple and in the Nageswara Rao Park.
Art Contests for kids are held every evening at the Chess Square, Nageswara Rao Park, Luz. Kids need to bring chart paper and colouring materials and the theme will be given on the spot. No registration is required. More info is at the fest web site.
There is also a chess tourney for kids. On Jan. 7 and 8. At 8 a.m

This is for children below 12 years.

A KIDS ZONE is being created at Lady Sivaswamy Iyer Girls School, Mylapore ( near Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan) on the weekend. There are contests and workshops here. Take a look at what is on offer –
Jan. 7. At 3 p.m. – Painting contest – Theme: Mylapore Scene
Open to kids below 12 years. Participants must bring chart paper and colouring materials. Registration not required.
On this evening, from 3.45 p.m. to 6 p.m. – there will be a variety of art / craft workshops. Free and open to kids. You need to walk in.
On Jan. 8, at 3 p.m., a “Design a Pongal Greeting Card contest will be held. Open to kids below 12 years. Kids must bring chart paper and colouring materials. Registration on the spot.
That evening, from 3.45 p.m. to 6 p.m., a second round of a variety of art / craft workshops are open to kids. Admission is free but on first come first serve basis.

There are also workshops at Nageswara Rao Park on Jan. 7 and 8. at 8 a.m.

THE BIG EVENT
A new production titled ‘ Vanna Mayil’ will be premiered at the 2012 edition of the Sundaram Finance Mylapore Festival which opens on January 5 next year.
‘Vanna Mayil’ has dance and creative choreographies by guru Revathi Ramachandran and centres on less known communities who have enriched the life of the Mylapore region.
Using dance, narration, visuals and music, this production features neighbourhood artistes and will be staged on all four evenings of the Festival at the main stage at Sannidhi Square.
The hugely known Kolam Contest will be held on North Mada Street on the weekend. Registration closes soon. Call Sharadha at 94457 64499 to register (10 a.m. to 1 p.m. only).
Puppet shows, dance productions and nagaswaram concerts are at the core of the daily events.
The popular Food Street, Art Street, Craft Street and Women Entrepeneurs’ Street will come alive on all days of the Fest.
Admission to all events is free and open to all in most cases. The Fest is made possible by Sundaram Finance, the sole and exclusive funder of the Fest curated by Vincent D’ Souza, the Fest Director. R. Revathi is the Fest Co-ordinator.
