In an effort to revive the art of pallavi singing in all its glory, Carnatica and Sri Parthasarathy Swami Sabha have joined hands to present a unique music festival – Pallavi Durbar 2011- on August 4, 5 and 6 at the Mylapore Fine Arts Club.
The festival is dedicated to exploring the various facets of Ragam-Thanam-Pallavi, which is considered the pinnacle of manodharma sangitam (creative music) in the Carnatic tradition. The series will feature stalwarts such as Suguna Purushotthaman, Gayathri Girish and Panthula Rama, young virtuoso Abhishek Raghuram, overseas talents Sandeep Narayan and Ramakrishna Murthy, and talented young musicians Sumithra Vasudev and V. Shankaranarayanan.
The festival is dedicated to the memory of maestro Chengalpet Ranganathan, who was himself a doyen of pallavi singing, and participated in last year’s Pallavi Darbar.
A tribute to the vidwan will be offered on the inaugural day of the festival by P. S. Narayanaswamy.
Admission is free. This fest is an idea of musician K. N. Shashikiran.
