One of the senior most cameramen, producers, directors and studio owners, B.S. Ranga passed away on December 12. He was ill and the end came on Sunday afternoon. He was 94.
He was born on 11th November 1917. Bindiganavalue Srinivas Iyengar Ranga (B.S. Ranga) got trained at the age of 17 in photography. His father Srinivasa Iyengar had a fascination for theatre. B.S. Ranga got a Fellowship from theĀ Royal Photographic Society of Royal Salon London. Besides producing, directing and doing cinematography, he was instrumental in bringing the latest technology to Kannada cinema in those days.
B.S. Ranga had an illustrious film career lasting more than five decades during which he touched all facets of film making from cinematography to direction. He started his career in 1940 through a Hindi film Pardeshi. He also was a studio owner, exhibitor and scriptwriter.
His production company Vikram Productions gained fame and fortune throughout the 60s and 70s and this won B.S. Ranga many prestigious awards, including two President Awards. The first award was for Tenali Ramakrishna and the second for Amarshilpi Jakanachari.
