Blessings for script, symbolic rehearsal and coffee: and ‘Kathadi’ Ramamurthy and group launch new play

This is a tradition that theatre and movie artiste Kathadi Ramamurthy follows; every new theatre production begins with presenting the script at the sanctums of Sri Kapaleeswarar and Sri Karpagambal at the temple in Mylapore.

And so, for the next play, titled ‘Sikkal Sivaraman’, Ramamurthy, script writer-director S L Nanu and the core artistes of the group, Stage Creations, gathered at the temple earlier this week and sought the grace of the gods.

They then headed to Ramamurthy’s residence and had their first reading of the script.

“This is a practice we have followed for decades,” said Nanu who has written this script and dialogues for the new play that has its launch on August 2.

The group gives itself about three weeks of rehearsals for a new play.

This play comes two years after ‘Jugalbandhi’ which premiered in 2022.

“Kathadi was busy with his film shoot commitments and some of our artistes were tied down with weddings in their families so we could not produce a play last year,” said Nanu.
