I use to read with interest your E Papers.I appreciate your journalist service in contacting the Secretary of the now controversial institution The Mylapre Hindu Permanent Fund and get his reply on queries on the present difficulties faced by thousands of depositors.
In his reply, the secretary has advised the depositors not to panic and rush to foreclose their deposits. He has said Rs25 crores have already been refunded and another 5 crores arrears would be cleared in two months which is due to end by 31 st of May.
As one of the deposit holder living in a far off place in Bengalore,I am ,now aged 79 years,on behalf myself and other depositors like me,requesting the honourable Editor of Mylapore times to gather from the Fund officials updates on their endeavours to pay the interest arrears for 3 months now. Thanks.
I am Swaminathan,aged 81.
I have invested my hard-earned money in Mylapore benefit fund on monthly interest basis. In the recent days lot of people like me,are not getting their interest in time, making us to run from pillar to post at this old age. When we ask the concerned staff we donot get proper reply.Their owner Mr Devanathan is given an M.P. ticket by BJP ,contesting from Sivaganga.
We suspect all our money is being spent in the election in Sivaganga. Please publish this news for awareness.
You can send your reporter to Mylpaore Fund office, located nearValleswaran koil at 10.00 am.Let him take photos also. There will be a meeting of all investers at 4.30 pm on Monday.Kindly depute your reporter.
We have also invested.pls let us guide how to proceed

It is times like this, when the whole world is impacted by the deadly virus, the best of some people come to the fore. Jaya Eye Care Center, ably run by Dr Pa. Ganesh is a standing example, who rose to the occasion wonderfully. When my family member developed a sudden reddishness in the eye in May’20, Dr Ganesh prescribed medicines after examining the photos sent and he got cured within days. More recently, when my reading glass was broken, the Doctor responded to my email and directed his staff to collect the spectacle at home and the repaired one was again delivered at home this morning. This has obviated the necessity of senior citizens venturing out during this pandemic times. I sincerely appreciate the commitment and service of Dr Ganesh and his efficient staff who are located in Fourth Trust cross Street of Mandavelippakkam. Such dedicated medical professionals are the need of the hour
Mylapore times is not delivered to our house at 7 Trust Pakkam South street, Mandaveli, chennai 600028. Neighbours also voice the same grievances. Please resolve this at the earliest. Regards.
Our colleague handling circulation will address this issue. Thanks for alerting us.
I’m not able to see older classifieds in e-paper. Is there an option to download it.
Classifieds of the current MT issue alone are online for 7 days. The rest are blocked. But you may refer the back issues at the MT office.
Hello Team
Now a days , in all super markets they charging amount for covers. But recently heard that news, which happens for Bata Showroom. Since they charged 3rs for cover but they paid to penalty for customer around some thousands. Anyhow but still shops charging amount for covers.
Even today, in Desi Green & Spices located at R.K.Mutt Road. They charged 5rs for a cover. I asked instead of charging 5 rs on covers , you can provide paper bags or bags which is lower cost. But got bad and bad response from the owner (a lady) who administrator. Even the cover is small size but billed as medium size in bill.
Whether this can be publish in mylapore times and make aware of people.
Hello – I want to lodge a complaint about a drainage leak at my place in Mylapore coming from neighbors place. Is it possible to publish it in Mylapore times?

Mylapore Times is undoubtedly the best neighborhood newspaper in the Mylapore area. Having said that I would like to bring to your notice that we are not getting the paper in our neighborhood – MUNDAKANNI AMMAN KOIL, 2ND LANE. I have to go to BOI or a shop at Alwarpet to get one and that too disappears in an hour max. Kindly address the issue. Thank you.
We would love to circulate more copies but can’t do so for business reasons and we hope you do understand this. Hence, MT is also posted on the web site. We will try and increase copies at the local bank where you pick up your copy.
On the reported matter of Kapaleeswarar temple Managers challenging the new platforms on mada streets, was this thought not applied by the corporation authorities? The slabs are already in place and now that the work is also stopped, the whole pavement is in a mess. Not sure what purpose would have been served barring providing a permanent place for hawkers. poor planning and though process. Corporation would do well to consult the local people before embarking such (mis)adventures. Similarly the sheets placed opposite to Karpagam hotel on south mada street is also lying idle for more than 6 months now! Poor planning and no implementation
Respected sir/madam,
I reside at Bhagirathi street, R A Puram ch28. Our streets are not been daily sweeped and hence is filled with garbages fallen here and there in the street. We have asked our staff to talk to you on this.
Good to hear that senior officials discussing about the potential repairs to the Kapaleeswarar temple. On the subject, it will be the right time to plan for a ‘WELL MAINTAINED’ toilet facilities inside the temple premises for the benefit of the visitors. Authorities should keep in mind such facilities in places like Tirupathy, where they have excellent rest rooms , maintained well.
I am a resident of R.A Puram. Although the summer sun is yet to shine in its full glory, I am sure thirst pangs have hit us well enough for each one of to appreciate what a precious commodity water is. It saddens me a lot when one hand I see women queuing up for the water lorries, and on the other I see people washing their walls, gates , vehicles and in one extreme case the road in front of their houses with a hose pipe. These things are bound to get dusty within few minutes of washing. Hose pipes are extremely wasteful and even in developed countries water restrictions in summer don’t allow hose pipes. I would urge all sensible human beings in the locality to stop such grossly wasteful habits themselves and talk their friends and neighbors out of it. Its alright to use little bit of muscle power (incidental exercise) with a bucket and cloth to give a drink of water to a thirsty person.
The traffic restrictions on the mada streets of Mylapore was long overdue and when it did happen, it proved to be a dampener. Clear lack of application of mind in diverting all the traffic through west mada street via other mada streets. It was a plan designed to fail and the authorities would have succeeded if the focus were only on the traffic around the mada streets other than the West
IT IS VERY HARD TO SEE THAT MTC BUSES (BLUE BOARD, GREEN BOARD & DIGITAL BOARD BUSES) ARE NOT STOPPING AT MANDAVELI MARKET (AT THE END OF ST.MARY’S ROAD NEAR PUMPING STATION) WHERE A MINIMUM OF 20 TO 30 COMMUTERS ARE REALLY WAITING IN THE PEAK HOURS AND ALSO IN THE LEAN HOURS TO UTILISE THE DIFFERENTSERVICES. BUT THE DRIVERS DO NOT STOP EVEN THE BUSES DO NOT HAVE MUCH PASSENGERS. MTC AUTHORITIES MAY KINDLY ADVISE THEM TO STOP IN THE MANDAVELI MARKET/POST OFFICE
STOPPING AS BUSES PLYING TO ALL OVER CHENNAI AND THE UNLUCKY MANDAVELI RESIDENTS MAY ATLEAST NEED NOT WAIT FOR A LONGTIME TO REACH THEIR DESIRED PLACES.

I have two comments:-
1.The traffic signal lights at the Chamiers Road junction near Madras Eye Research Foundation has not been functioning for over a month. There is absolute chaos in the evenings.A senior police officer said that setting right the signal is not on the priority list since no fatality has yet taken place there. He declined to reveal his identity since he is not authorized to speak to the media or to the aam aadmi.
2.A block of stones functions as a median right opposite Hameedia Stores. The area is not well lit and the stones can hardly be seen unless one is aware of them.A couple of weeks back , a motorbike rider hit a stone head-on and fell off his bike.Fortunately, he got away with light injuries.
In other areas, the median starts midway with no cat’s eye to show that it is there. An example is the median on Chamiers Road just after Park Sheraton towards R A Puram.
I visited the Mandeveli office of TNEB to check about the deposit amount to be paid. Due to the crowd, I was directed to go inside and a gentleman I met, patiently heard me and tried to check the details in the computer on his table. As it was not working, he directed another staff to look into it. Since she could not figure out the details, he himself logged into a different system and gave me the details. Later I came to know that he is a A.E by name Mr. Mohan Das. Long live such officials who patiently attend to customers despite crowd. Keep it up TNEB !

I reside, in what used to be called Palace Road. I take an evenings walk each day and have recently noticed that near Jawahar Flats and Lalitha Nagar, after about 8pm, it has been regular for a few youngsters to consume alcohol, in the dark spots. Surprised that no one has taken notice or objected to this. Will the police from E1 station, make regular rounds and check this. Old age prevents me from confronting these youngsters.
about Sir P . Rajagopalachari ( 1864 – 1927 )
Sir ,
I am a writer from Kerala , now lives at Indira Nagar in Adyar and doing some researches in the Tamil Nadu State Archives . I want to know more about Sir P . Rajagopalachari ( 1864 – 1927 ) , the first Speaker of Madras Legislative Council and the Diwan of Cochin and Travancore , etc. His ancestral home was in Perungavur village and he was born in Madras. Can anyone among the readers of ‘ Mylapore Times ‘ help me by giving any information on Sir Chari ? I have heard about a book published in 1978 and titled as ‘ FLASHING AYYANGAR :The Life And Times Of P.Rajagopalachari,1864-1927 ‘ written by P.V.Rajagopal . But I can’t find not only this book but also any other work on Sir Chari even after a long search in Chennai. I hope you and your readers will kind enough to help me .
Yours sincerely

IAm a resident of Alwarpet residing in warren Road. Iam greatly dissapointed with the erratic supply of metro water .Its been over a month that we are suupplied with water for our flats .As a new resident in the area i dont know how to voice my concern .few days before i read a lot of praise for the area mayor who is helping out the community by participating in their woes …i havent lived here for many years but recently moved back to chennai and iam disappointed that these concerns of residents remains same even as many years passess ….when i left India 17 years ago i found our community with such same issues and iam not surprisesd that iam writing the same format of complain……which as a young girl then i used to read in editorial columns …..i hope and pray we will change and our system should change …..!!!!!!!!!!!!a real need is for a comprehensive and pratical solution to such problems and who will address these issues when i asked my flat secretary if its being followed up ,has no answer except a plain “yes” …and concern if we knew anybody in the corporation for reccommedations …to keep the issue on table !!!!!an emergency plan to advocate such issues is required for those providing civic service .This issue is now not restricted to being justa domestic issue …..its becoming a woe to our community hoping to see a change and the problem to be addressed soooon ….!!!!!!!!!!
Amidst my fasting routine of this holy month iam forced to sit and pendown this issue with only hope that i will be heard

Many pleas of the Kapali temple visiting citizens seems to be falling on the deaf ears of the local politicians as no attempt is made to regulate traffic on the streets around the temple. It is absolute chaos in the evenings, when big cars are allowed into even the narrow Thandarai street. Are the local authorities serious about conveniences to the pedestrians? The cars of police officials and judges are parked right in front of the entrance even on busy days. Will there be any relief please?
Sir,
I am a regular visitor to Saibaba Koil, Mylapore.
I am pained to say that the activities of the beggars in front of the Saibaba temple is becoming from bad to worse. They use vulgar language and shouting on each other when some of the beggar get alms or eatables. Their behaviours are very ugly and threating.
I would like to suggest a few points to the devotees of Saibaba in this regard.
Though Saibaba has told that the poor should be rendered some help, he himself will not like such activities just infront of his temple.
Most of the beggars seem to be healthy. They can do some petty job if given.
The temple authorities can with the help of some volunteers erect a Hundi just to get the money by way of giving some remuneration to the willing beggars who will do some sort of cleaning work in and around the temple premises. For that purpose, a sum of Rs. 100/- or Rs. 200/- if they do the cleaning work for half-a-day.
A board detailing the process can be erected in one corner of the temple and a Hundi can be placed so that instead of just giving alms for the beggars, they can get the money after doing some work with dignity.
For this, first of all they should take bath in the pay and use toilet available in and around Mylapore. If saree, blouse and inskirts are required to them, if a line is written in the board and a card board box is placed nearby devotees are willing to donate good clothing to the willing workers. If free alms are stopped they will atleast try to do some required work. With the help of police force also we can initiate the work. Only starting the process requires encouragement. Once they do the work they will continue to work with pride.
The much required road space will also be available for the public by this act.
The Editor of Mylapore Times will render his influence to improvise the matter and soon I hope some change is there.

I am taking a regular walk on the Greenways Raod and it is disheartening to note that the Tholkappiar Poonga being wasted. Inaugurated with such fanfare, it is Opened only to school children. How many school children will come and how many times? Why cant this be opened to people who take walks regularly? Its a shame that such a central facility is being wasted. Will the councillor & MLA take up the issue please?
Despite hundreds of appeals through this and other channels, the authorities are indifferent to traffic control during Pradhosham days. Not only in Mada streets, even at the narrow lane in front of the temple, two way traffic is allowed resulting in huge bottlenecks to even pedestrians. To ward off the feeling that the authorities are indifferent to the public grievances, it is time they look into this issue. Unless there are other considerations, One wonders as to why this request of Mylaporeans is being continued to be neglected!
Hello Iam a regular reader or Mylapore times. i reside in M R C nagar . The garbage collection and sweeping of the streets is way below thestandard compared to previous agencies. The sweepers allotted to the area cleans the school area while many other lanes are left neglected. i have repeatedly complained to the suprevisor .but there is no improvement. Garbage piles up at every corner and the stink unbearable. The situation worsens while the neighbourhood school works. the vans are parked haphazardly all overthe place and drivers urinate wherever they choose to.
The school management should keep a check of such drivers who dirty the place by throwing away food and other rubbish and provide a toilet within the school premises so that the drivers do not openly urinate.
The coverage and publicity given to the Panguni fest was great . But, the local Govt machinery was found wanting in the maintenance part during this time. The place stank of left over food , used plates & all particularly during major festival days such as Ther and Arubathi Moovar. As it is likely to spread diseases, top priority should be accorded to cleanliness, which we hope will atleast be done in future.

I am one of the thousand of regular customers of mylapore times. I have been the resident of Mylapore for the last 35 years. Thanks for covering the most of the events that are taking place in and around Mylai.
The publishing of letters to the editor are having a good response from the Govt officials concerned. Especially the wastage dump clearing by the Corpn. Thanks for this good effort.
In further to the letter written by Mr K Karthikeyan who has written about shifting of Bus terminus from Tank to Luz Church Road, I am of the same view. The taking of U turn by the buses are having traffic chaos.
Also with regard to the making of one way of North Mada Street are not take seriously by the concerned officials. In the evening times, it becomes very difficult for the pedestrians to walk in this road.
We, all our family members wish the Paper a vey long innings and hope it will continue to serve the perople till a long time to come. We also pray to the almighty to give good health to your family members, yourself and all the employees of the esteemed weekly.

I read your news paper regularly. THIS TIME I WANT TO INSIST ON THE VALUE EDUCATION THAT EVERY SCHOOL MUST GIVE.THE RECENT NEWS THAT A SCHOOL STUDENT KILLING A TEACHER PROVES THAT VALUE EDUCATION IS NOT PROPERLY GIVEN.WE HAVE GREAT HINDU ORGANISATION LIKE RAMAKRISHNA MISSION AND OTHER RELIGIOUS ORGANISATION WHICH SHOULD GO TO THE MASSES AND PREACH VALUES. INSTEAD OF CONCENTRATING ON WRITING BOOKS THEY SHOULD SPREAD VALUES TO THE MASSES BY PREACHING. THE MONKS SHOULD DO THE ABOVE ACTIVITIES.SITTING IN THE COMFORT ZONE AND WRITING BOOKS WILL NOT HELP.
Dear Sir,
When will you come up with Adayar times online edition, i am missing for a while now, since we moved from India.
rgds,
VenkatUSA
Very soon.
Hi,
Thanks for the info about Metropolitan Transport Corporation new bus. At the same time requesting you to provide the fare, website to look into the schedule and MTC customer care enquire number. This additional information will be more useful to public.
Hope you will consider this request and look forward in further.
Regards,
Vishal
Hi,
Thanks to the online version of Mylapore Times for providing upto date information. At the same time please come up with a “Day of message” or “Weekly message” by providing a social message to people like what is the important of nomination for a bank account or how to apply for a pan card or how to apply election card or how to apply ration card. If there are no reponse from the officer then what are the escalation process like higher officers contact number, email, website etc etc. So that it will bring more awareness for the publicand this message will reach fast to public. Hope you will consider this request.
Of late, essential services seem to be disturbed without any consideration for public. Only recently, the Milk card distribution was tossed from Mandaveli to C P Ramaswamy Road and after protests have been brought to within the area. Now, the TNEB collection center has been shifted from R K Mutt Road to Visalakshi Garden! Thankfully we have the online payment facility but not sure how many will be using internet. Why not the authorities consider the convenience of the consumers before making such drastic changes?
Of late, the scheduled power cuts between 12 noon and 1 PM in Mandaveli is being extended by atleast an hour and last week it also went upto 2:15 PM. With the temperature still on the high side, TNEB would do well to stick to the timings please. It disturbs the sleep of the sick and senior citizens
For sometime the workforce of Neel Metal Fanalca is conspicuous by its absence. The streets around Trust Link street, Trust Cross st and near the pillar in Foreshore Estate, are reaking with foul smell emanating from uncleared garbage. Will the authorities please look into this health hazard? Public, in our own interest, can take care to put the garbage in the bin without throwing it around. Some self discipline is also called for!
The crowd at the Mylapore Kapali temple is constantly rising for every pradhosham but little seem to be done to help the devotees visiting the temple at this time. Immediately after the II round, the crowd start dispersing in a hurry and the koil entrance is waiting for a stampede to happen. With many senior citizens around, a center meridian dividing the crowd that is entering and leaving the temple is essential. If not permanent, a temporary barricade would do. Also , a railing for the people to hold on could prevent people from tripping. Will the authorities look into this please?
Mylapore has got a lot of schools I agree. But they only do not contribute to major news in the area. The newspaper has to go beyond schools and the temple. For example today’s home page (June 23rd 2011) has only school news with a repeat of Sivaswamy Kalalaya’s former principal’s demise news in different forms.
While we appreciate the effort taken by your newspaper we also find that majority of news from schools fill the pages more often. Overdose of anything will only result in losing the readers who are not interested in that category.
Thanks for your observations Lakshmikanthan. But we disagree with you on this issue. A neighbourhood newspaper like ours lays much importance for everything in local campuses – results, extracurricular, elections, issues, etc. Also this is the season for intense activities at schools and hence the weekly can only reflect what happens on the ground.
It is high time the traffic around the four mada streets of Mylapore is better regulated. Particularly, on the days of Pradhosham , it is chaotic. Authorities should seriously consider making these street ONE WAY, for free flow of traffic and pedestrian conveniences.

Sir,
Thank you for posting my grievance in your paper dated 11.03.2011 based on my post on your website on 22.02.2011. I would like to inform you that subsequent to my earlier post, there are now 5-6 dustbins lying on the junction of Justice Sundaram Road & Ramachandra Road. Whenever the bins are cleared by Neel Metal, they ensure that some of the bins are left back filled with waste. Don’t know when the residents in the area will be able to spend time without bad smell from the bins??? Will someone act upon it??? Do something??? Looks like the residents will have to happily live with both the bad smell and the mosquitoes that get generated from the BINS !!!
Sir,
I have been reading your paper since 2003, when i moved to Chennai. I find that the paper is very useful in helping the community by providing lots of informaiton about the events happening in the locality.
I reside on Justice Sundaram Road, Mylapore. At the junction of Justice Sundaram Road and Ramachandra Road, there are a couple of dustbins which are constantly overflowing on a daily basis. The area surrounding the bins are very dirty, most of the times the smell arising out of the bins are very bad and the people staying in the locality to not walk on the road. It has also become a haven for street dogs. The said bins are not being cleared on a daily basis. Can your please run an article in your paper and request the authorities to clean the place everyday?
Dear Sir. I happened to stumble upon this web site where I saw a picture of old teachers from PS High School reunion. I could recognize Sri, K Swaminatha Iyer in the picture. I studied at PS high School North during the years 1969-1975. I am trying to connect with my classmates and alumni of this school. Any help you can provide will be appreciated. I can be reached at ramjisri@gmail.com
Sincerely
Ramji

We are a small group of ladies from the class of ’72 at Rosary Matriculation. Desperate to find any of our batchmates, we heard that your publication ran a photograph of the class in one of your issues. I’ve scoured every section but was unable to find it. Please help/
Also, we are trying to arrange a re-union of our class, do you think you could run a small story calling for anyone who reads it from our batch or anyone with info, to contact me (through your publication)?
I live outside of India now, but am a Santhome/RA Puram girl at heart. Needless to say how much your online version means to me.
Best Regards,
Geeta

Sir,
My mother is a regular reader of your paper and I have just recently been introduced to it. Me and my class mate studying in 9 th standard in P.S.B.B would like to contribute write ups to your magazine. We also hear that you have a special edition on children’s day being bought out exclusively by children. How do we become part of that team. Please do reply
Regards

Thanks for the appreciation. Check out the ad link on our web site for the special assignments we offer Students of Mylapore during November.
It is good if you can publish digital copy of the Mylapore time online. It helps residents staying outside and planning to move to Mylapore to look at the Advertisements and also someone who missed the last issue.
Thanks for the suggestion. These will be on the way in stages. Keep coming!
I relive memories of Madras, thanks to the online version of Mylapore Times. While living in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, for the present, I would like to give you some information on ‘street names” here. This country is now going around placing plaques on street corners, displaying street names and the history behind the names. This is very interesting indeed and wish we could do something similar in India, specially in Madras. But I suppose with the constant change in names of the streets, with the political scenario changing every time, it is a tough proposition!!!
I am a resident of Mylapore for more than 40 years and a regular reader of Mylapore times. Now I am at Charlotte USA and your website gives me current information about Mylapore happanings. Thank you for the same and wish you all the best.
Respect Sir,
I was living in chennai till 2002 until i got transferred to Hyderabad. I work as an Inspector in Central Excise. I was a regular reader of mylapore time till i lived in chennai. Once in 4 months or so i visit Chennai and am prompt to collect the copy of your weekly from the Ambika Appalam Depot, Mylapore. We resided in 36, Bheemana Garden Street. My wife was running a courier service when we stayed in Chennai in the name of Essel Couriers. We are proud that your weekly carried an article on working women from home and my wife K Adilakshmi’s courier was featured once. Also, my grandmother Smt K Sambrajyam celebrated here 100th Birthday in January 2000 and your weekly carried out an artticle on the same.
Now that your weekly is online, I will be browsing it regularly. We, all our family members wish the Paper a vey long innings and hope it will continue to serve the perople till a long time to come. We also pray to the almighty to give good health to your family members, yourself and all the employees of the esteemed weekly. My mobile No. is 09441609356.
with warm regards

I am a housewife having 2 school going kids..I just thought esteemed papers like yours can offer home-based editorial/proof reading jobs for people like us who have good English reading and writing skills but are not able to go out to work due to family constraints..We will also be satisfied that we have not wasted having studied till our graduation/post graduation and at the same time having done justice to our family as well. Every job requires a bit of training in the initial stage and that is it.
Thanks for the time u spent on reading this message. I hope u will consider this request of mine and come up with something that is unique of Mylapore times as always.
