Columnist-writer-historian V. Sriram will speak on the topic – The India I saw – The Freedom Struggle as seen by Ambujammal’.
The talk is based on Sriram’s English translation of Ambujammal’s autobiography which was written in Tamil and titled ‘Naan kanda Bharatham’.
The talk is hosted by INTACH’s Chennai chapter on April 4, ( Froday) starting 5.30 p.m. at Srinivasa Gandhi Nilayam which is located on Ambujammal Street, off TTK Road, near the Teynampet Post office. It is open to all.
Born in 1899, S. Ambujammal, though born into a wealthy family, set aside the good life, became a Gandhian and dedicated her life to social service in Madras and around and was at the core of India’s freedom struggle. The book records life in Madras during the freedom struggle and her own activities.
She founded Srinivasa Gandhi Nilayam in Alwarpet; she was decorated with the Padma Shri award in 1964.
