Panguni festival: people chant, clap to music and some even dance as the lord is taken out in Saturday’s procession

There was music, there was dance, there was chanting and there was fervour on East Mada Street on Saturday morning ( April 5 )when the Panguni festival procession of the lord on the adikara nandi vahanam began to roll on the main road after coming out of Sannidhi Street and Sri Kapali Temple.

The street was packed with people. And volunteers, as is done daily, had drawn large kolams on the street.

While Shiva bhaktas played on their traditional instruments and two children danced all around them, another group of artistes played their set of music, and people began to clap and chant in the middle of the road.

Soon one woman stepped in to dance, gently and in slow motion. Two more women and then one senior man joined in the dancing.

One of them said that the music and the sacred atmosphere inspired her to dance for a few minutes.

There were a few onlookers who did not approve of the dancing, wondering why traditions were not respected.
