Panguni fest: Urbaser civic staff go good job of cleaning streets despite huge crowds

The team of Urbaser Sumeet civic workers who were posted around Sri Kapali Temple for the Panguni fest have come for all round appreciation for keeping the mada streets and by-streets clean all these days.

On Thursday, when the biggest crowd packed into this zone to take part in the arbathumoovar procession, with all the mada streets jam-packed with people, the big team of Urbaser workers were seen clearing the waste off the streets every 10/15minutes.

They cleared food trays and tumblers, plastic and paper, food waste and water bottles and more. Teams were stationed across the streets to do the job.

That night, when the procession ended, the streets were neat. Later, water was flushed on the streets to clean them fully.

Most Urbaser staff employed here were women and some of them, took breaks to watch the procession of the nayanmars and the gods and even sing and dance a bit, soaking in the atmosphere.

  1. As pointed out The Urbaser Sumeet workers have done their job ‘spic and span’ and the services rendered needs to be applauded. With walkie-talkie the workers were in groups and were on their toes. At the same time devotees and public should also impose self restraint on lighting camphors and breaking coconuts on the Mada Veedhis. Prasadams May also be distributed at designated places. The police and volunteers have also done a commendable job, and thus the public can support a large way in consistently following self restraint acts. This can also be a best practice during temple festivals.
