Members of St Thomas Cathedral Basilica, St. Thomas CSI Tamil Church and St. Thomas CSI English Church. took part in the annual ecumenical Palm Sunday procession held this Sunday morning ( April 13).
This service is held on connection with the Lenten season observed in churches.
The communities met at the campus of St. Raphael’s Girls Hr. Sec. School off Kutchery Road. Here, the priests of the three churches which are all located off San Thome High Road, were present.
Palms were blessed and distributed.
The priests then led the community in a procession from the school campus. The people walked towards San Thome High Road and then headed to their own churches for the Palm Sunday services.
This procession symbolically marks events in the life of Jesus before the days leading to his condemnation and death. It is also the start of Holy Week in the church calendar.
