Greater Chennai Corporation has recently renovated the GCC park on R A Puram’s Seventh Main Road.
Stainless steel railings have been erected around the plants and the walkways have been freshly paved with tiles.
New gym equipment has been installed in the open air and the existing gym equipment donated by R A Puram Residents’ Association (RAPRA) in 2017 has been relocated. This allows more people to loosen up and exercise here.
Members of RAPRA, the local area association for residents have now placed 10 big sized cement potted plants on the newly constructed platform alongside the park to add to the ‘green’ feel of this area.
The plants were chosen in consultation with the state horticulture department. The staff recommended plants that can grow well even in the shade.
The plants are Alocasia, Fycus Ponda, Rubra Red, Areca Palms, Tuja Gold, Rafix Plams and Bougainvillea in three different colours. The pots are filled with red sand and manure to nourish the plants. Watering is done by RAPRA’s gardener.
RAPRA’s leaders say that this step was taken to add to the efforts of GCC to spruce up the local park.
