Womens Day sale in Alwarpet: Saris and salwars, jewellery and gift items, podis and pickles. Sale by women entrepreneurs. March 4 – 9

This 32nd edition of Women’s Bazaar curated by C P Art Centre for Womens Day will be held at three halls of C. P. Ramaswami Aiyar Foundation in Alwarpet on March 4, from 10 am to 7 p.m..

The sale is on till March 9, through the day.

On display and sale are jewellery of kinds, craft and art works of all kinds, saris, salwar sets, bedspreads and children’s wear and a whole assortment of stuff.

Also on sale is foodstuff like pickles and podis and rice mixes, pottery and gifting items.

The Women’s Bazaar provides a platform for women to sell their products.
From what started as a quiet launch with a few women entrepreneurs, today the
number of women participating in the annual craft bazaar has increased
exponentially.

The women belong to a variety of backgrounds: women from rural areas, from
Chennai’s hutments, middle-class women and economically disadvantaged women.

Some 45 women’s groups are participating this year. All proceeds from the sales
go to the women and/or the women’s organisations, which include Women’s India
Association (WIA), Naam Foundation, Porgai Artisans Association – Lambadi
community from Tamilnadu, Thoorigai Grama Pengal Kootamaippu, Trichy and
those supported by the C.P. Ramaswami Aiyar Foundation.

All expenses of the women taking part in the sale are covered by C.P. Art Centre.

Prabha Sridevan, former judge of the Madras High Court will inaugurate the sale on March 4 at 11 a.m.

The sale will take place in the Main, Mini I and Mini II galleries of C.P. Art Centre, 1, Eldams Road, Alwarpet.
