The festival of Gudi Padwa was celebrated by the Maharashtrian community at an event held at their communjty hall in Alwarpet on March 30.
Hosted by the Mahratta Education Fund, which is in its 112th year, at the Maharashtra Nivas on TTK Road, some 150 people attended the event.
A scholar from Madras Sanskrit College read the almanac for the new year and explained the salient features. A puja was performed.
Since most children of the community are attending exams or have gone out of the city on holidays, cultural events could not be held.
High tea was served to all, the popular kasi halwa on the menu.
Vasudev Rao is the president and Shyam Sunder is the secretary of this community which focuses on supporting children of the community in education.
