S. Chakaravarthy Nadar had touched the lives of many with his coffee brand based in the heart of Mylapore – Geetha Coffee.
He passed away on March 21 at the age of 70.
. Tributes are pouring in from all sides, said his son S. Karthik, who works in the IT sector.
Karthik’s brother, S. Seenu Chander runs a stationery shop in Mylapore.
Geetha Coffee was started in 1984 by Chakaravarthy after he gained immense experience in the field by working in Sundaram Coffee for 14 years.
“My father used to source coffee beans through dealers in Mysore. For him, quality and customer satisfaction were more important than profit,” adds Karthik.
Hailing from Kadambur in Tuticorin district in Tamil Nadu, Chakaravarthy made Geetha Coffee a household name. Often at the shop on Sundareswarar Street, there would be customers who would wait to pack two and three packs of coffee powder; to be carted either to some point outside Mylapore or outside the city.
“He was a people’s person. His warm outlook won him many customers. He helped people both as an individual and as the senior leader of Chennai vazh Kadambur Hindu Nadar uravin murai Paripalanam,” said Karthik.
Chakaravarthy has two brothers – one lives in Sivakasi and other runs the Geetha Coffee store in Mandaveli.
“My father set up the Mandaveli store of Geetha Coffee for his brother in 1987,” reveals Karthik.
Chakaravarthy’s sons – Karthik and Seenu Chander – and their wives will run Geetha Coffee from now on and take the legacy forward. “We intend to work together and continue to give customers the best of coffee varieties and in the way they enjoy it,” said Karthik.
Chakravarthy resided at Veera Perumal Koil Street, Mylapore.
