The Chennai Middle School in Abiramapuram, run by the city’s civic body, Greater Chennai Corporation ( GCC), last week celebrated its 100 years.
The school is located in the Thiruvalluvarpet area and has 140 students on its rolls.
Headmistress Bhadrakali said that the civic body had sent a communication listing all city schools managed by GCC which are in their 100th year and asked each to get up an event to mark this milestone.
Here, Mylapore MLA Dha Velu and local area councillor Saraswathy graced the warm event where the junior students were dressed in gowns and given certificates.
The MLA said that he would do what best he could for the school in a zone where the community had voted him to be the MLA.
Parents and guardians of the students participated.
Headmistress Bhadrakali says that GCC has provided all the accessories and needs of the school.
She hoped the school can soon get smart classroom accessories and that if she and team can get some 20 – 30 children admitted in the new academic year, a few more classrooms can be built to accommodate the children.
